OPEN TRIO

A PROTOTYPE OF HALF OPEN BAFFLE LOUDSPEAKER DESIGN (2019)

Open Trio was a special prototype version inspired by the Half Open Baffle design of the Anteros 8 – 8s model (2018 – 2019) and the Open 100 model (2015). Accordingly, the Open Trio was designed with an Open Baffle structure for midrange and high range. The subwoofer was designed with a closed speaker cabinet structure controlled by a power amp built into the speaker. This speaker model was an open baffle loudspeaker solution for small and medium-sized rooms, exploiting the natural sound of the Open Baffle design and deep, well-controlled bass range.

Open Trio is a special version that has contributed to the diversity of designs for the collection of Open Baffle speaker designs that have been researched and developed by ThivanLabs since 2012 until now.

This is a setup of an Open Trio driven by an 811 single-ended Mark IIIs (2017) played on a DAC Tube Music Processor X-Grand (2017) in a room of music entertainment at our client’s apartment. It is also very special that many of our customers are artists and art enthusiasts. This customer not only has a passion for fine art but also a passion for singing and playing musical instruments. The Open Trio and the system have been set up to serve the owner’s needs for listening to music, watching movies, and singing with friends at home. The system includes:

Anteros 8s is a special edition with an extra super tweeter module to enhance the super high frequency.

A Design of Half Open Baffle Loudspeaker System

Anteros 8, the first version of the half-open baffle loudspeaker design, debuted and was demonstrated for the first time at AVshow Saigon 2018. With this design, this speaker was flexible enough to be set up near the wall at the rear of the speaker. This was a big convenience for the user, who has a medium room size but falls in love with the big loudspeaker and natural sound of the open baffle loudspeaker.

The Anteros-8 is like a brother of Anteros 9. The Anteros-8 speaker system has four modules, and each channel has two modules assembled. The Anteros-8 utilizes similar drivers as the Anteros-9’s but reduces one 15-inch driver. The upper modules use 15-inch paper cone drivers for the midrange frequency and pleated diaphragm tweeters for superior sound quality. The lower modules are 21-inch sealed box woofers controlled by one separate power amplifier and valve pre-amplifier. This speaker system is designed to be able to match the smaller rooms from 30 m2 to 100 m2. The technical design of the Anteros-8 enables users to get an easier and more convenient setup when it is positioned near the rear wall. Its typical sound is a high dynamic treble with the clarity and warmth of midrange reproduction, as well as a power extension of super low frequency.

ThivanLabs Anteros-9 Anniversary – A Full Open Baffle Loudspeaker System – first launch in 2017

Anteros-9 was the first of two flagship high-end Full Open Baffle loudspeaker systems launched at the end of 2017 as an Anniversary celebration of establishing and developing ThivanLabs.

After a long R&D period of various Open Baffle loudspeaker design tests from 2012 to 2017, the Anteros-9 was the first Full Open Baffle loudspeaker system that came to life. The Anteros-9 Anniversary Full Open Baffle loudspeaker system debuted for the first time at the Vietnam AV Show 2017. Anteros-9 Anniversary is utilized full of achievements that ThivanLabs has obtained in many years of researching and manufacturing different kinds of audio loudspeakers, such as sealed and vented box loudspeakers, especially ‘Open Baffle’ loudspeakers. The Anteros-9 Anniversary and later its brother Anteros-8 were the various design solutions destined for a wide range of the conditions of different listening rooms and listeners’ tastes.

The Anteros-9 is a full-open baffle loudspeaker system with four speaker modules. Two modules are columns of floor-standing open baffle loudspeakers, and each column uses two 15-inch paper cone drivers and an AMT pleated diaphragm tweeter, delivering an incredibly superior high treble quality and extremely smooth midrange frequencies. Two other modules are 21-inch open baffle woofers offering a super low-frequency extension. This full-open baffle speaker system impressively reproduces natural and pure sound and is tailored for large rooms from 40 m2 to 100 m2. The 21-inch woofers are controlled by a separate power amplifier and valve pre-amplifier, substantially contributing to the full energy and natural bass.

A Design Solution of Full Open Baffle Loudspeaker System

In 2017, ANTEROS-3, the first Full Open Baffle Loudspeaker System in ThivanLabs’ series of Open Baffle speaker designs researched and developed since 2012, was officially introduced and demonstrated for the first time at the Audio Visual Show Vietnam in the same year.
